Worth every penny, i live in a bungalow which is plagued with black mold on ceiling lines especially in the bathroom despite ventilation. We cleaned it all off with black mold remover prior to buying this and not one spec has returned. We bought an Hygrometer just to see what the reading was before switching the Meaco on and it went off the scale, 2 weeks later with this running and we are in the comfort zone. The amount of water this thing pulls out of the air in the first few weeks is shocking and the difference it makes is amazing, no more mold, no more coughing and the heating rarely turns on now the cold damp air has gone which i`m sure will save more money in the long run.So impressed with the results my neighbor has now bought one too, he suffers from COPD and say`s the results after a few weeks are truly miraculous.

I have been using ebac powerpac 21 liters dehumidifier for about 4 years and bought this to replace it since the previous one is adamantly leaking. Currently both are in operation, and this has extracted a lot of water already from the bedrooms. Initially for few days it ran all day and night but now it appears to stop and run when the humidity goes up.Like one of the reviewers mentioned, there was a strong chemical smell on the first day of use and i would recommend to leave it running somewhere you dont bother much for a day before moving to bedroom or the bedroom floor.I am using the HEPA air filter as well and i am pretty happy the bedrooms feels dry and fresh.>>> Updated after an year of use:I am extremely satisfied with this product.

second one we have bought, pleased with the product; our first one did go wrong but it was fixed under warrantee & returned fine.reason we 'spend more' on this model is you can attach a piece of pipe (we use hose pipe) and leave it running without having to empty a tray all the time; other models 'may' do this but when spending quite a bit of time searching, this was the only model we could see that clearly did this.would recommend others to buy

Who Are Meaco?

Meaco was started in 1991 by Chris and Michelle Michael. Initially, they specialised in monitoring and control equipment for museums and art galleries. However, in 1991, they were approached by Mitsubishi Electric to be the sole distributor of portable dehumidifiers (a relationship that lasts to this day).

In 2005 the pair sold the museums and art galleries side of the business to focus on the distribution and manufacturing of dehumidifiers. Fast forward to the present day, Meaco is one of the major players in the international dehumidifier industry. Meaco sells to over 20 countries throughout Europe and South Africa.

The Meaco 20L is one of the best dehumidifiers on the market. It excels in every important category, including energy efficiency, water extraction, noise, and ease of use. It has also been on the Which? Best Buy list for several years.

The Meaco 20L dehumidifier is a refrigerant dehumidifier, which means it is most efficient in warmer temperatures and humidities like those in your home. However, unlike other refrigerant dehumidifiers, this model also useful at lower temperatures. This gives you the option to use the appliance in rooms which are not heated.

Be aware that it measures 39x62x29 cm and weighs 13.7kg. Which puts this dehumidifier as one of the larger appliances on this list. This means that it will take up more room than other models — this is something to think about if you have a smaller home. It does come with castors and a handle, which will help you move it around.

The Meaco 20L model is relatively quiet compared to other dehumidifiers of the same size, which makes a nice change. However, the unit can still reach 45dB so if you’re very irritable by noise then this is something to bear in mind.

Meaco claims that this model has an energy rating of A+, making this one of the most energy-efficient models on the market. Not only will this unit get the job done but it won’t cost you the earth to use it. This means buying this unit can be a cost-effective method of removing damp or mould from your home.

The Meaco 20L dehumidifier also has many excellent features which makes it easy to use. The touch controls and digital display are easy to navigate and help you see what setting you’ve chosen. An automatic timer allows you to switch the unit off between one to twenty-four hours — which will enable you to get on with your day to day routine.

Other features include a continuous drainage feature, which means you don’t have to spend any time replacing the trays. However, this model has a 20-litre tank, so this shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

The added extra of including a HEPA filter to the dehumidifier can help to reduce allergens in your home. This is an excellent feature if you’re asthmatic and want to minimise the irritants in the air. Although if you wish to add HEPA filters, you will have to buy them separately.

To conclude, the Meaco 20L is one of the best dehumidifiers on the market. The model comes with a range of impressive features, which make it easy to use and to set up. The only downside is the unit is one of the larger models in this list and might not be best for smaller homes.

Just like the Meaco 20L, the Meaco DD8L Zambezi is one of the best dehumidifiers on the market. This model excels at energy-efficiency, extracting water quickly, and ease of use.

This model is a desiccant dehumidifier and can work at average room temperatures, as well as during colder conditions. It can quickly extract water from the air, either in a bedroom or cold garage. Just like most dehumidifiers, do not use this unit in freezing conditions.

The Meaco DD8L is an energy class A, just like the Meaco 20L, which means it doesn’t use a lot of energy when it extracts water. This energy-efficient model will allow you to get results quicker, but won’t cause you to pay through the teeth for the results.

It weighs 8kg and is 36 x 20 x 55 cm in size which makes this model one of the smaller dehumidifiers on our list. If you were put off by the Meaco 20L size and weight, then the Meaco DD8L might be a better option. It is an excellent choice for those with smaller homes. Also, the unit has a handle on the top to help you move it around the house.

The DD8L has a simple digital display and electronic controls which make operating this unit a dream.

Also, the unique Meaco control logic in this model allows you to maintain a chosen humidity level. The Meaco DD8L will monitor the room humidity level every 30 minutes to maintain the moisture level. This process saves on electricity and money; a bonus if you’re looking to reduce costs.

Another great set of features for those who have asthma is the ioniser and anti-bacterial filters. These keep the air clean and help to reduce irritants like mould spores. Be aware that the filter will never need to be replaced but will need to be cleaned at least every two weeks.

The Meaco DD8L’s water tank holds 3 litres of water. So, if you do not wish to remove the water trays every time it gets full, then we’d recommend utilizing the continuous drain facility. To do this, you’ll need to attach a hose to the unit and make sure it leads to a low-level drain outlet or a sink.

If you’re looking for a smaller and compact dehumidifier, then look no further than the Meaco DD8L Zambezi model. It is energy-efficient, quick at extracting water, and straightforward to use.

Proved unreliable. When new it frequently cut out with flashing error light as the water wasn't draining correctly into the internal tank so I switched to using the drain hose. This then worked fine for about a year, only getting an error a few times, cured by switching off and on again. Then the fan stopped working causing it to overheat and cut out. Managed to manually get the fan spinning again by poking it and left it on high as the manual suggests to ensure lubrication, but happened again a few times since. Now finally it no longer works on the low setting, as the heating element seems to have developed a fault, so will only work on high. Hopefully I can get through the winter with it then I will try another brand and replace it. When it works it is quiet, efficient and very effective, but poor value for money due to reliability.

On the plus side: works extremely well. I had a very humid ground floor Edwardian flat, with serious condensation problems on the windows, rust in the back boxes of electrical sockets on the external walls, peeling wallpaper with black mould underneath,... I tried passive moisture absorbers, which did nothing. This machine extracted about 4L of water per day, bringing the humidity down to 55%, and completely removing the window condensation. Being a dessicant design, it works well regardless of temperature. It's also great for drying a rack of clothes in winter: stick it in a closed room, turn it up to max, and your clothes will be dry in no time.On the minus side: it eats a *lot* of power. Your electricity bills will shoot up when you start using this. Now I've dried out my flat (over several months), I just use this during late autumn/early winter, when condensation is at its worst. In spring/summer, you're much better off opening a window. Other designs (i.e., non-dessicant designs) might be more power efficient. It's also not great at detecting when the target humidity level is reached, and keeps running until the air is a lot dryer than the targeted level.

I have been using a dehumidifier in my garage for 2 years to protect my tools and the car i keep stored inside. My Electric bill has taken abit of a battering the last 12 months or so with energy price increases which has meant i have had to look at reducing my power consumption.I had previously used a EcoAir DD322 that only allows a power saving mode that keeps the humidity around 50% but because you can only set it to this level it burns through alot of electric even on a dry day. I decided to buy the Meaco as i had worked out it would probably pay for itself in electric savings within 4 months. Well a week into ownership and the humidity set at 60% the Meaco has probably saved me a pound a day compared to the old dehumidifier. I have a humidity meter about 5 metres away from the Meaco and its showing below 60% all the time so i know the dehumidifier is working as it should. Quite often when i go into the garage it is in its shut down mode where its resting for 30 minutes. Im very impressed with this unit and would recommend it to anyone looking for one. When in operation the heating effect is far more than my older Ecoair dehumidifier.

The Meaco Junior DD8L is one of the most compact and lightest dehumidifiers on this list. If you’re looking for a dehumidifier which can operate in both cold and warm temperatures, take up very little space and extract a lot of water then this is the model for you.

This Meaco dehumidifier is very effective at extracting moisture from the air. It’s a desiccant dehumidifier and works just as effectively in cold and warm temperatures — making it an ideal option to get rid of any unwanted moisture from a garage or conservatory. However, do remember that no dehumidifier should be operating in freezing conditions.

One of the best things about this dehumidifier is that it’s one of the most compact and light on the market. The Meaco Junior DD8L only weighs 6.2Kg and has a dimension of 18x35x50 cm. This makes it very portable and easy to move from room to room in any home.

Concerning energy efficiency, the Meaco Junior DD8L isn’t bad, but it is not the best. If you’re looking to minimize costs while running a dehumidifier in your home, then we’d recommend looking into the Meaco 20L Low Energy Dehumidifier.

Regarding the noise, it’s not the quietest model in this list, but it is not the worst. If you’re irritated by sound easily, then the Junior DD8L might not be for you. However, take into account where you’ll be placing the model. If you’re putting it in a garage or conservatory, then sound from it operating shouldn’t be a problem.

The downside to having a compact model is that the water tank only holds up to 2-litres. So be aware that if you don’t set-up the continuous draining feature, then you’ll be emptying it throughout the day. This model also comes with a wall mounted bracket, if you don’t want to keep bumping into it.

Just like the DD8L Zambezi model, this dehumidifier comes with Meaco control logic so it will monitor the room humidity level every 30 mins to maintain the moisture level. It also comes with an auto-restart and electronic controls which make it easy to operate.

The Meaco Junior DD8L is a strong contender for those looking for a dehumidifier for their home, garage or conservatory. It can operate in colder and warmer temperatures, is lightweight and very compact, and can extract a lot of moisture from the air.

The dehumidifier was doing a noise (not always) in silent mode and also the "flip-flop" wing on top of the dehumidifier was doing a noise when it moved.I contacted the Meaco service and I was told to record the a video and send to them. That was what I did and sent to them. They alleged that they couldn't hear the sound. It was clear for us and even more during the night when it was we used the silent mode. For the "flip-flop" I was told to buy a lubrificant. Please, what lubrificant??I asked them to swap the dehumidifier, but they never commented on it.After several email exchanged with Meaco service we decided to return it.I still consider this dehumidryer is an excellent product, but, a poor service after sales.Good luck if you buy it and you need support.

We have a damp house and I was very cautious when buying a dehumidifier. I did a lot of research and even called the manufacturer. He had a great knowledge and I felt I was in safe hands. In The end I worked out that this more expensive model that was a higher efficiency would become more cost effective electricity usage-wise after the 15th use. We have a smart meter and it shows to the penny how much this costs; and the manufacturer is bang on. It's quiet and economical.

Fantastic machine. The house we rent has a roof leakage and the mould was growing all around the ceiling . There are other numerous issues with this property and this machine is able to such all the moisture , easily filling the container up full during every day and use it at approx 17-18'C - so pretty low ! Very efficient machine. The laundry mode is also great, allows to dry anything very fast. In fact my son spilled some water on his laptop, and the computer shut down immediately ! We decided to put it in front of a dehumidifier and after two days it was completely dry and works as if nothing happened ! Great machine , can't recommend it enough.

Meaco 25L low energy dehumidifier is excellent at extracting water from any home, and it’s very energy-efficient due to a variety of unique product features.

It’s a refrigerant dehumidifier, which is designed to operate in higher temperatures and humidities. Meaco claims that this model can extract 25-litres of water in 30ºC over 24 hours, which is impressive. However, it is not likely that those in the UK or US will According to Meaco, it will still extract 6 to 11-litres of water from the air between 15-20ºC over 24 hours. This is still impressive if you live in particularly damp conditions.

The Meaco 25L has a unique DC Motor, which helps to reduce the cost of running the appliance over long periods of time. Due to this unique feature, this dehumidifier is very energy efficient to run, and if you’re looking to reduce electricity costs, then this is a strong contender.

One of the unique features of this dehumidifier is that it’s designed to dry clothes, as well as extract moisture from the air. If you’re worried about ramping up the electricity bill by using too many electrical appliances at once, like the tumble dryer, then this feature allows you the option to reduce costs. Combined with the DC motor, this can make this model very economical to run compared to other Meaco dehumidifiers.

One the downsides to the Meaco 25L is the noise. It has four fan speeds, and one of these speed settings is for drying clothes. In this mode, it can reach 50dB which can be irritating if you’re in the same room when it’s operating. Even on the minimum setting, it will reach 42dB which is noisy, and if you’re easily agitated by constant sounds, this might put you off.

This model weighs 15.1kg and has a dimension of 38 x 29 x 64 cm — making it the heaviest and bulkiest dehumidifiers in this list. If this puts you off this model does come with wheels, making it easier to move around the house.

The Meaco 25L dehumidifier comes with a range of handy features. These features include a filter and ioniser which help clear the air, a handy feature for asthmatics. The electronic controls and digital display help make setting up the dehumidifier very easy.

It also comes with the Meaco control logic, auto restart, and off-timer which are convenient features if you don’t want to wait around the house for the dehumidifier to finish. Just remember to use the continuous drainage feature, so you don’t have to drain the water tank.

As a bonus, this dehumidifier comes with a child lock. Which means you won’t have to worry about settings suddenly changing when you have your back turned.

To conclude, the Meaco 25L low energy dehumidifier is energy-efficient and very effective at extracting water from the air. It’s packed with Meaco features which make it easy to use and even has the unique DC motor feature which helps to reduce the cost of running the machine. It can be loud when in operation, so be aware of this if you’re irritated by noise.

What a mighty wee machine this is, it's been keeping my 2 bed flat in wettest Wales, dry for over 18 months. It's still going strong and the tank fills every 12 hours or so. I'd say it's been turned on night and day for 17.5 out of the last 18 months and left to manage it's own usage, and good god does it work hard some weeks.I would recommend cleaning the filter (whilst turned off) at least once a week, by either running a hoover over it or washing it with soapy water. I'd also recommend running a hoover over the internal fan intake once in a while as this ensures a clear pull through, and thereby less stress on the parts.Damn fine piece of kit.

We live in a 3 bed terrace which despite having double glazing with air vents, we continually have extreme condensation on the windows and our fitted wardrobe (I blame cavity wall insulation) and have had to use bathroom anti mould paint on all external walls to stop black mould. I've tried little electric dehumidifiers which haven't really done a great deal so was a little undecided about making an expensive purchase of it wasn't going to work but decided to take the bull by the horns.I did a lot of research, having been involved with Ikea's Live Lagom sustainability project earlier this year and being conscious of running costs I knew I needed to look at running costs as well as performance. The Meaco 12l Platinum dehumidifier ticked all the boxes so I placed my order.Unpacked from box, put on landing and switched it on. If I was to tell you that it has only been running for approx 17 hours and has already pulled THREE LITRES of water you might be sat thinking 'Yeah right' but honestly it has!!! For the first time in I don't know how long our windows aren't full of condensation when I've woken up.I'm amazed. I'm astounded. I'm thrilled.

Amazed at how well and quickly this has started to clear up the humidity in my home. Within 24 hours had emptied the container three times. Its like living in a different home, everything smells so much fresher. Would definitely recommend getting one if you do have problems.

The Meaco 12L low energy dehumidifier is an excellent choice if you thought the Meaco 20L was too costly. For those looking to extract water from their flat or small home, and keep costs low, this model is worth checking out.

The Meaco 12L low energy dehumidifier, just like the 20L, is a refrigerant dehumidifier. This means it will operate better at higher temperatures and higher humidities. It has frost watch; a feature which stops the dehumidifier from extracting water in freezing conditions (which can damage the model).

A key feature of this model is its size and weight. The Meaco 12L weighs 9.7kg and is 24.8 x 48.5 x 32.5 cm in size, which makes it one of the lighter and smaller dehumidifiers on the market. This makes it ideal for moving it around multiple rooms in a home or if you live in a flat or small home.

Concerning the extraction rate, this model is very good at extracting water out of the air at room temperatures. It can extract up to 12-litres of water per day, and coupled with its size and weight, makes it suitable for drying out a small home.

Just like the 20-litre model this dehumidifier is is an energy class A, but unlike its larger cousin, this model only uses 165 watts (the 20L uses 265 watts). This allows the Meaco 12L to run very efficiently and helps to reduce electricity costs when running.

In terms of noise, the Meaco 12L is no different compared to other dehumidifiers. When it runs the noise level can get up to 44dB. If you’re looking for a quieter model then this model not be for you.

Just like the Meaco 20L, the 12L settings are easy to navigate and use due to the electronic and digital controls. The model comes with a carry handle, making it even easier to carry the light model around the home. It also comes with a child lock which stops young hands from fiddling with the controls while it is being moved around the home.

Again, the smaller Meaco 12L model comes with a humidistat, just like the 20L. This feature helps to monitor the humidity level in a room and the dehumidifier will turn on and off to maintain the chosen humidity level.

The water tank is 2.5-litres which is one of the smallest in this list. If you will be keeping this model running continuously, and you don’t want to keep emptying the water tank, then we’d recommend using the continuous drainage option. Although you’ll need to purchase a hose to connect the dehumidifier to the drain or sink.

To conclude, if wanted the Meaco 20L but needed it smaller and cost less, then we’d recommend the Meaco 12L low energy dehumidifier. This dehumidifier is excellent at extracting water at room temperature and is small enough to fit in a flat or small home.
