Proved unreliable. When new it frequently cut out with flashing error light as the water wasn't draining correctly into the internal tank so I switched to using the drain hose. This then worked fine for about a year, only getting an error a few times, cured by switching off and on again. Then the fan stopped working causing it to overheat and cut out. Managed to manually get the fan spinning again by poking it and left it on high as the manual suggests to ensure lubrication, but happened again a few times since. Now finally it no longer works on the low setting, as the heating element seems to have developed a fault, so will only work on high. Hopefully I can get through the winter with it then I will try another brand and replace it. When it works it is quiet, efficient and very effective, but poor value for money due to reliability.

I have been using this produce for a while now and now feel I can give honest feedback about it.My house suffers from 'condensation damp' since new Double Glazing was installed a few years ago, painting over it was ok for a while until we got to late Autumn/Winter when drying clothes in the house was needed and so the mould would reappear...until now!I live in a large 3 Bed Detached house and as long as the Dehumidifier is positioned in the correct place (bottom of the stairs) it will clear the whole house of condensation so no more wet window sills in the morning! It did take about 4 weeks on continuous 24 hours a day full power use to get the house down to normal humid levels but since then it just works when it needs to (in fact we are surprised when it does need to work now).Leaving it switched on 24 hours a day it 'scans' the air every hour for a few minutes and then 'decides' if it needs to be brought in to action, if not then it goes back to 'sleep' until the next 'scan' happens. It has a few settings but the main ones are 'full power' which is advised to be used when first bought and will switch off when the house is 40% humidity, a 'standard' setting-this will bring the house to around 50% humidity which is correct for this Country then switch off and a setting which is for drying clothes in the house; this can be timer set too.Overall, a brilliant piece of kit which is better than expected!

Outstanding! Collects way more water than our Ebac refrigerant type unit and warms the area as well. Very light but appears well made. Ended up trying it in the garage and it was so effective it's still there. Keeps temp to between 5 and 10C regardless of how much it's freezing outside and everything lovely and dry so no rust.

What makes a Dehumidifier Small?

A dehumidifier is small due to its size, weight and lower capacity.

The best-sized dehumidifier ultimately depends on the area and climate you want to use it in. If you’re going to remove moisture from an entire house, you’ll want a larger capacity dehumidifier. In a small area, like a flat or caravan, a lower capacity is needed.

The important thing to identify is what size area (m2) you want to remove moisture. Please make sure that a smaller capacity model is what you need before you buy.

Generally, the lower capacity dehumidifiers are compact and portable. If you’re looking for a transportable model, make sure it has castors (wheels) and a handle. These features will make it easier to move around your home or transport it in a car.

Why Buy a Small Dehumidifier?

A small dehumidifier is perfect for extracting water and reducing mould in smaller spaces or single rooms.

The smaller capacity models also use less energy than larger models to extract water from an area. Less power combined with energy efficiency features helps to reduce the costs of running a smaller dehumidifier, which is ideal for those looking to cut costs.

Finally the smaller dehumidifier models are compact and portable, making it easier to move around a house.

PROS:
  • Great for removing water in single rooms.
  • Models are easy to move around.
  • They use less electricity than larger models.
  • Cost less to run to than larger models.
  • Spend less time emptying the water tank.

CONS:
  • Not ideal at extracting water from an entire house.

This dehumidifier is simply one of the best ! Its quiet in operation and the amount of water it draws out of the air is nothing short of Impressive. It has a wide range of excellent features such as Laundry Mode, Various Fan Speeds, Timer for On and Off operation with built in clock. The unit can also be permanently plumbed into a drain, which eliminates the need to keep emptying the internal tank. Support from Meaco has also been excellent, my query to them was answered within a couple of hours. If you are looking for a decent dehumidifier, then in my humble opinion, this is the one to go for, very pleased.

I've only had this 5 days but already I see a huge difference. This is my third dehumidifier and this is without a doubt the best. Even with all fans on the noise level is low compared to my previous appliances. It's attractive and sleek and fits in with any decor. Most importantly it gets to work fast to remove the excess humidity. Very simple to use. Definitely worth the extra!

Considered one of the best small dehumidifiers on the market, the Meaco DD8L Zambezi Dehumidifier is able to extract large quantities of water while remaining highly energy efficient.

Working best at average room temperatures, the DD8L can also work in colder conditions so you can put it to work in places like the garage should you wish to.

Fitting neatly into the A energy class, you can rely on the DD8L to extract moisture without pushing the bills up too far.

One of the smallest dehumidifiers on the list at 36x20x55cm, and weighing a mere 8kg, the unit is easy to move from room to room and is great for those with smaller apartments.

Complete with a digital display, the Meaco is great to use, and you can easily set it to maintain your desired humidity level.

What’s more, the machine can be set to monitor the room every thirty minutes so that you can maintain the humidity level you need.

The DD8L also comes with an ioniser and anti-bacterial filters, which can help clean the air and keep irritants at bay. Just remember to keep them a clean every two weeks.

Holding three litres of water, the continuous drainage facility means you don’t have to empty the trays every few hours or so.

Indeed, the Meaco DD8L is one of the finest small dehumidifiers on the market and should be high up on just about every dehumidifier shopping list.

Another Meaco, and a great one at that, the Meaco Junior DD8L is one of the most compact and lightest dehumidifiers on the market and can even be used in mobile homes and other smaller environments.

Efficient in temperatures both warm and cold (although not freezing), the unit weighs a mere 6.2kg and fits in at 18x25x50cm, making it highly portable.

Regarded by many as a middle-of-the-road dehumidifier when it concerns energy efficiency, you might want to look at the Meaco 20L Low Energy Dehumidifier if this is a particular concern.

Only able to hold two litres, you’ll also need to consider the fact that you’ll need to replace the water tank more so than other models, that is if you don’t utilise the continuous drainage feature.

A handy bonus is that the model also comes with a wall mounted bracket, which is particularly handy if you live in a small apartment.

Also featuring Meaco control logic, the unit is able to monitor the humidity every 30 minutes and also comes with an auto-restart function, all of which is incredibly easy to operate.

A strong contender for those looking for an incredibly compact dehumidifier, the Meaco Junior DD8L is a neat little unit that is designed for small homes and environments.

Bought this mainly based on the other reviews. Glad I did. A superb piece of kit Installed it on the landing of our 4 bed house on the Sunday and on Tuesday morning had to empty the tank. This was running on automatic from around 8am till 9pm. Now, another week on and humidity is down to 48% and stable. The instruction book has a very handy section which explains about why we need to have a certain amount of humidity in the air. As with comments from other reviewers, it works best if you leave your internal doors open; moisture will migrate naturally from any room towards the machine. I am so impressed with this device I bought another for our caravan, which after being closed for the winter had mould growing in places when we went to open up. I left this one on the kitchen worktop on automatic constantly while we weren't there draining through the supplied pipe into the sink. When we went the following week to check on it, the difference in the air was amazing. The mould had all but disappeared, and the air felt, well, dry! Very impressed with this machine, highly recommended.

It is doing its job but I am not impressed by lack of auto function of the machine! I had a previous same brand but a simple one where you could set it at eco function, and would come on and off on its own accord when it detected high humidity. Despite this one having more features on it, does not switch itself off when not placed on the timer provided! Basically it would run for 24/7 when not on the timer which to me isn't eco-friendly! If you do use the timer slot 2hrs/ 4hrs/ 8hrs, it would run on the selected timer then switch itself off and you would have to manually press the on button to start the machine again. What is the point of detecting humidity when it doesn't even come on itself?

If your unsure what dehumidifier to buy then look no further this is amazing the 2 bed flat was always damp and full of condensation now I run this everyday for about 6hrs on normal setting and the problem is fixed.*********** update the thing is rubbish broke water went all over the floor destroyed my laminate sent it away for repair same again 4 weeks later and that's after waiting about 5 weeks for a repair and all the hassle of sending it away****update it has packed in just before warranty was up, sent it back for repair and the service is terrible rang several times never given a straight answer as to when it will be ready, very dissatisfied would just like a refund now

Perfect for those who want a dehumidifier that is easy to easy to use, the EcoAir DD1 Classic MK5 is highly efficient and being that it is a desiccant unit, it can work in temperatures that are both hot and cold.

Able to move seven litres of water a day, which is a fair amount, but not the most, it’s worth remembering that the model is incredibly light and compact. If you need to extract large amounts of water fairly quickly, you might need to look for a larger model.

Built for smaller homes, the unit has a two-litre water tank, which is comparatively small compared to other EcoAir models, although if you’re not wanting to extract lots of water, this shouldn’t be a problem, and there is also a continuous drainage feature.

Using 580 watts to operate, the model is slightly less efficient than other models on the market, especially when you consider it weighs only 6.2kg and is only 52x39x27cm.

Despite this, it is also one of the quietest on the market at 34dB, which is perfect if you have small children in the home.

Complete with a variety of features including an auto-setting function so that you can choose the perfect humidity level for you, it also comes with a filter, an ioniser, a handle, and wheels.

What’s more, it is considered by many to be one of the easiest small dehumidifiers on the market to operate, largely thanks to its digital controls.

Also offering a laundry drying feature, the EcoAir DD1 Classic MK5 dehumidifier should be a consideration for anyone looking for a quiet and compact dehumidifier for a smaller environment.

Unfortunately several generations of Meaco dehumidifiers suffer from the same problem. They have a high frequency of failure with the heating element "blowing". The symptom when this happens is failure to collect any water. If this happens after the guarantee period, you are left with an expensive piece of scrap, since Meaco take no pains to repair at any viable price or to provide replacement elements at a price which make repair in any way viable (repairs at more than 70% of purchase price). This is a manufacturing defect, and Meaco have not stepped up to the plate to address it (as they could simply by providing either better elements or replacements free of charge ir at nominal cost).Having said that, they work well when they do, but the failure rate is high enough that it would be reasonable to imagine the cost of the product at double its purchase price, and make decisions accordingly. I will not buy again having being burned several times, and having researched the similar problems experienced by others.

It seems to be a good investment. Because we live in an older solid brick bungalow, we have condensation problems, so I'm using it daily in the bedrooms, or central in the hall, to keep the humidity down. It's strangely satisfying to empty the tray full of water that it's (presumably) sucked out of the walls and the surrounding atmosphere. We also use it to dry laundry indoors - which it does well. I haven't had it long enough to see what damage it does to my electricity bill, so we'll have to wait and see. I'm considering asking the family to cut down their breathing rate, because that would keep the bill down a bit wouldn't it?I had a minor concern, when a small brown rustlike stain appears on the handle of the water tray. I wipe it away and another reappears. The manufacturer assures me that no rustable parts are used so I'm somewhat reassured.Obviously, if this turns out to be a sign of premature failure I WILL not be happy, but only time will tell. Has anybody else had this problem?Overall, so far, a good little piece of equipment.
March 3, 2010
ok, Initially this product performed very well. However just before the warranty expired the 'check' light kept coming on and the unit stopping.I had it repaired under guarantee - and to be fair no problems with the return and repair service from the seller. - - Apparently the fan unit had to be replaced. All was back to working order. However 5 or so months later and the Heating element has now failed. Which looking at other reviews seems more common than it should be, and sounds expensive to get repaired now that it's beyond the Guarantee.I will be choosing an alternate make for my replacement ... for this price you would certainly not expect it to fail twice in under 2yrs.

Impressive in many regards, the EcoAir DD122 MK4 Classic, is a worthy addition to this list, although it isn’t as energy efficient or as quiet as other models.

Designed to work in lower temperatures, the desiccant dehumidifier can extract seven litres of water from the air at around 20ºC with 60% humidity.

Able to hold only two litres of water, the unit will have to be drained more frequently.

It does, however, feature two fan modes, which includes an economy mode to help reduce costs. That said, it does use 580 watts, which is far more than some dehumidifiers. If this is a concern, you should take a look at the DC18, although it is slightly more expensive.

Incredibly lightweight at 6kg, and equally as compact at 17x29x48cm, the model does not need wheels, although it does have a carry handle.

A quiet dehumidifier, the DD122 MK4 runs at just 34dB, which is great if you are easily irritated by background noises.

Featuring an auto-shutoff mode, alongside continuous drainage features, it means that the DD122 MK4 doesn’t need to be checked on during the day. There’s also an anti-tilt function, which reduces spillage.

Complete with a rotary dial control panel, the unit is easy to use and allows you to set your preferred humidity level.

Although not very energy-efficient compared to other models, the EcoAir DD122 MK4 is great for those who need a smaller dehumidifier and don’t mind larger running costs.

What a mighty wee machine this is, it's been keeping my 2 bed flat in wettest Wales, dry for over 18 months. It's still going strong and the tank fills every 12 hours or so. I'd say it's been turned on night and day for 17.5 out of the last 18 months and left to manage it's own usage, and good god does it work hard some weeks.I would recommend cleaning the filter (whilst turned off) at least once a week, by either running a hoover over it or washing it with soapy water. I'd also recommend running a hoover over the internal fan intake once in a while as this ensures a clear pull through, and thereby less stress on the parts.Damn fine piece of kit.

Amazed at how well and quickly this has started to clear up the humidity in my home. Within 24 hours had emptied the container three times. Its like living in a different home, everything smells so much fresher. Would definitely recommend getting one if you do have problems.
October 20, 2015
I had mold problem in rented 2 bedroom house, black spots on walls behind furniture and on ceiling, and it's hard to scrub it off, what's more disappointing is that paint peeling off. Before I had 80% humidity in house on normal day and it took couple of weeks to get it to 50%. Machine was working 24/7, every other day in another room. Now I keep it mostly in the kitchen and in room where laundry drying. Machine is quiet, economical and its draws moisture out of air as its say in manual. Worth every penny.

An excellent choice if you are avoiding the costlier Meaco 20L, the Meaco 12L Low Energy Dehumidifier is also great at keeping running costs low.

A refrigerant dehumidifier, the unit works better at higher temperatures and humidities and also has a frost watch to stop it extracting water in freezing conditions.

Weighing only 9.7kg, and found at 24x48x32cm, the machine is fairly light and is ideal for small rooms and environments.

Able to extract up to 12 litres a day, the Meaco 12L comes with an energy class A and runs at a mere 165 watts, meaning that it is incredibly energy efficient to use.

At 44dB however, the model is fairly standard when it comes to noise, with machines being available that are both louder and quieter.

With easy to navigate digital controls, the settings are easy to set, and the model comes with a handy humidistat so that the unit can maintain your chosen humidity level. There is also a handy child lock feature to stop little hands getting in control.

Including a tank of 2.5 litres, you’ll need to utilise its continuous drainage feature if you want to keep the machine running throughout the day. You’ll also need to purchase a hose to connect the dehumidifier to the sink.

Small, cheap, and incredibly cost-effective, the Meaco 12L Low Energy Dehumidifier is a bargain and one that we highly recommend.
