Who Are EcoAir?
EcoAir is one of the UK’s largest producers and distributors of air cleaning machinery. They manufacture air treatment units for residences and offices. Some of their products include desiccant dehumidifiers and air purifiers. They also sell ACs and even heating solutions.
EcoAir’s desiccant dehumidifiers have a lot to offer. They conserve energy, trap 6-7 litres of moisture per day, and feature a number of security features. EcoAir has certainly outdone itself in terms of quality and functionality.
EcoAir DD122 Dehumidifier – Our Review
EcoAir is well-renowned for its top-class dehumidifiers. The EcoAir DD122 is a desiccant dehumidifier. Desiccant moisture absorbers use a non-toxic chemical such as Zeolite (this chemical is hygroscopic that absorbs moisture from the air).
With the DD122, you can extract high levels of moisture, as much as 7 litres. It works even in freezing conditions. What makes the DD122 unique is the ultra-quiet operation and the Silver Filter. It saves energy, filters the air, and saves you from potential hazards.
The EcoAir DD122 is one of the most sophisticated desiccant dehumidifiers. Equipped with multiple safety features and a laundry mode, the DD122 may just be your best purchase of the year.
Ease of Use and Design
First things first, let’s start with the design. The external design of dehumidifiers doesn’t really matter, except in terms of portability. For a dehumidifier, the DD122 has a very simple design; no fancy accessories that take up unnecessary space.
The top features a handle and the control panel. Inside the control panel, you will find a rotary dial control and a simple Economy/Turbo Mode switch.
The side of the dehumidifier features a drainage hose along with a water tank that pulls out like a drawer. So you can remove the excess water collected by the unit in your own preferred way. The external appearance of the unit is mostly white with coloured accents.
Water Extraction and Energy Efficiency
The DD122 Dehumidifier is able to extract a maximum of 7 litres from the air. Even in the winters, the DD122 does not leave your side. The extraction unit is capable of removing water at temperatures as low as 1 degrees Celsius. Going lower than that, however, may reduce the efficiency of the unit.
To add to that, the DD122 is also energy efficient, depending on which mode you run it on. In the Quiet/Economy mode, it saves energy, operating at only 300 watts power consumption. In Turbo Mode, it can use up to 580 watts.
Size and Portability
Being able to store your unit is crucial, as most people don’t want their dehumidifier to be a centrepiece. Since the EcoAir DD122 boasts simplicity, it doesn’t take up much volume. It hardly weighs 6 kilos and has a height of 1.5 ft. It can fit easily on top of a washing machine or laundering unit.
The top features a foldable handle, but there are no wheels. Six kilos isn’t too heavy, but some elderly users may still find it straining to carry it around. So caster wheels would’ve solved the issue.
Noise and Operation
As stated, the EcoAir DD122 has an extremely quiet operation. It saves you from listening to the compressor idling. To be more specific, in Quiet mode, the unit runs at 34 dB. The Quiet mode is best for use around pets, infants, and during the night.
If you run the DD122 in Turbo mode, then it goes without saying that the noise output is doubled. But this mode is only for emergency dehumidification or times when you just want to check if the unit works or not.
The DD122 can operate between temperatures of 1 to 35 degrees Celsius. So, hotter climates may not benefit from this!
Filter and Cleaning
Dehumidifiers keep the air in the perfect condition that you need. But like every other product, they too require maintenance themselves. The Desiccant Dehumidifier DD122 incorporates a Nano Silver Filter.
Before you get confused, the filter doesn’t filter the air. Instead, it catches dust that might collect in the unit itself.
The filter requires cleaning every two weeks or so. It is recommended not to use water. Instead, just brush it or use a vacuum. If your dehumidifier isn’t able to absorb as much water as it usually does, you might have a faulty filter. Get it replaced or try taking benefit from the warranty.
Electronic Controls and Settings
What can be simpler than switches and buttons? The top of the DD122 dehumidifier is where the control panel is situated. This panel consists of a single rotary dial that you can use to control the humidity. Set the humidity level from between 35% to up to 80% RH.
The dial also features a Laundry mode for quickly drying clothes. But it is recommended to switch back to the medium setting after using it.
The second control you’ll notice on the DD122 is the Economy/Turbo switch. In Economy or Quiet mode, the unit will run at a slower speed and with lesser noise. This will save energy, as well. In Turbo mode, the unit will rapidly dehumidify while sucking up a lot of power.
Unfortunately, all the controls are analogue, and no LED screen is featured. Also, the unit does not feature a timer.
Water Tank and Continuous Drainage
Sitting on the side of the EcoAir dehumidifier is the water tray. The tray pulls out like a drawer tab and can hold up to 2 litres of water. The unit can absorb up to 7 litres each day, so you’ll need to empty the tray at least thrice. Overnight, the tray won’t need emptying.
Aside from the tank, you also get a continuous drainage facility. In other words, a drainage hose. Setting up the hose is relatively easy, but a lot of new users may struggle with it.
To summarize it all, the EcoAir DD122 has the following features:
- Different modes: You can switch your dehumidifier between different modes to get the desired results. There are Quiet, Turbo, and Laundry modes available for your convenience.
- Auto Shut off: Although there’s a continuous drainage hose available in the dehumidifier but for some reason, if the drainage gets clogged or stops working and if it does fill up, the unit will automatically shuts-off.
Value for Money
So the EcoAir DD122 dehumidifier is good, but is it good enough? Especially given the price? Well, if you compare it to other brands, then yes. Most dehumidifier brands don’t even provide safety features, other than a surge protector. And their operating noise output is too high, even in quiet mode. Plus, hardly any feature a mode specifically designed for drying clothes.
However, comparing with the other EcoAir dehumidifiers, this one doesn’t seem to be the best they’ve got. As mentioned before, the DD122 doesn’t even feature a timer or a digital screen. Whereas the DD1, DD128, and even the DD122 Mini feature a timer. And the DD3 Classic MK2 also features an LED screen.
The other units also have a slightly higher operating temperature (1 to 40 C). But, aside from the DD1, they all seem to consume more power and be louder. Plus, the Nano-Silver filter is only featured in a few Desiccant Dehumidifier models.
Where to Buy DD122 Dehumidifier?
The DD122 dehumidifier can be bought from various online stores. These include Amazon, eBay, Ideal Home, and even Eco Air’s official website. If you buy from their website, you get to avail of the full manufacturer’s warranty. But on Amazon and eBay, you might get accessories, too, as a bundle.

- Safety features prevent hazards.
- Low power consumption.
- 2 years manufacturer’s warranty.
- Various options.

Frequently Asked Questions:
How long is the warranty?
Your EcoAir DD122 humidifier will come with a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty. However, depending on where you buy it from, you might not be getting the full benefits of the warranty. This is why it is recommended to only buy from authentic websites.
How much does it cost to run?
The DD122 can cost as much as 1.56 euros each week, depending on what settings you use it on. However, since the house will be warmer, your thermostats will use up less energy. And the repercussions from a moist room will also be avoided, such as damaged walls and mould.
Is it ok to run it in a caravan?
Yes, it can. It keeps humidity at a moderate level, saving you from damaged walls and ceilings. Plus, it’s small and portable and stops you from feeling cold and clammy on the bed. It will also prevent the floors and any other wooden furniture from rotting. We recommend using the DD122 in caravans and motorhomes.
Does the DD122 work in low temperatures?
The operating temperature of the DD122 is between 1 to 35 degrees Celsius. So if the temperature is below freezing (0 degrees Celsius), you might want to look into a different dehumidifier. However, at temperatures above or below the range, humidity is already pretty minimal. In fact, at below-freezing temperatures, you might want to look into a humidifier, as the air can get pretty dry.
Finally, we can say that the EcoAir DD122 Desiccant dehumidifier is one of the best choices for you. It features everything you need, saves a timer, and an LED screen. We recommend the DD122 if you have a larger room, or operate a laundry.
If you don’t have that much of a need for a dehumidifier, then you might prefer the DD122 Mini. It features everything the DD122 does, but for smaller rooms.
So go out now and buy your own EcoAir DD122. Trust us on this one, and you won’t regret a thing.
